Lithography
Photo Plate Color Lithography is a printmaking process that combines photographic techniques with traditional lithography to create multi-color prints. A photo-sensitive metal or plastic plate is exposed to a film positive and UV light, hardening the image areas while non-image areas remain water-attracting. I draw onto a plastic sheet called, velvatone, with a water-soluble pencil to get my different values.
The plate is then inked, with oil-based ink adhering only to the image areas. For color printing, multiple plates are used for different colors (CMYK), each printed in careful registration to build the final image. This method allows for detailed photographic imagery while maintaining the rich textures of lithography, making it more accessible than traditional stone lithography.
